Social Media Intern at WELCOA
Communications Studies major | Healthy Lifestyle minor
Class of 2017
For College of Arts and Sciences senior Katie Cascino, the Creighton experience can be described in one word: community. A communication studies major and a healthy lifestyle minor, Cascino cites Creighton’s tight-knit community as the driving force that pushed her to grow and reach her full potential.
Since last April, Cascino has worked at the Wellness Council of America (WELCOA). She started as a social media intern, organizing and facilitating all product marketing on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn – including coordinating the company’s first blog. In August, Cascino accepted a permanent position at WELCOA as a marketing and operations specialist. Her job is primarily focused on marketing strategy and closely analyzing data to strengthen social networking content, scheduling and customer engagement. Recently, she initiated a campaign to support WELCOA’s new “On the Move” product, for which she produced creative marketing videos and worked on social media promotion.
Cascino is also involved in various organizations on Creighton’s campus. She has been an intern for Creighton’s homecoming weekend, a desk assistant for Campus Recreation, and was previously the health and wellness chair for Pi Beta Phi sorority. This year, she also served as the recruitment chair on Dance Marathon’s executive team.
In addition to her campus involvement, Cascino volunteers at Omaha Children’s Hospital and Medical Center in Omaha and Northwest Community Hospital in her hometown of Arlington Heights, Ill. She also participated in a medical service trip to Riobamba, Ecuador, through Creighton’s Medlife club during her sophomore year.
Cascino plans to attend graduate school and continue pursuing a career in health, but has an open mind regarding where that path may take her. “Upholding the well-being of others and caring for the whole person is something I am truly passionate about,” said Cascino.
“The leadership opportunities I have been able to take advantage of at Creighton have taught me what it takes to be successful in the professional world. Whether it is leading a meeting or communicating with a team, Creighton graduates are proficient in their careers because they have the experience needed to be successful.”
