With Thanksgiving just behind us, and the beginning of the holy season of Advent upon us, it is a wonderful time to reflect on all that blesses our college — our inspiring students, our talented faculty, our dedicated staff, and our accomplished alumni.
In September we learned we had even more to be grateful for, thanks to the generous $10 million gift from Dr. George and Mrs. Susan Haddix. Dr. Haddix is a former faculty member and alumnus, and both he and Mrs. Haddix are champions for educational access, especially in STEM fields, and important advocates for faculty research in arts and sciences. Their donation will touch every single student and faculty member in the college, enabling us to renovate and modernize our core science facility, to offer critical extra support for faculty research, and to sponsor the unique four-year comprehensive Haddix Ignatian Advising Program.
Additionally, the Haddix gift will allow us to launch a visionary partnership — the Haddix 24th Street STEM Corridor. Through this initiative, Creighton will partner with Omaha North, Central and South high schools to provide students from these schools with transformational summer STEM research experiences with our faculty and to create a pipeline for talented local STEM students to enroll at Creighton.
We are thrilled to begin implementing these projects. They will help us continue to demonstrate the life-changing value of a liberal arts education and better fulfill our core mission for students and their learning.
I wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a peaceful holiday season.
