After almost five years at Creighton University, Lt. Col. Jared Sutton announced his retirement as chair of the Military Science Department. Upon retirement, Sutton plans to spend more time with his family.
“It’s been a really rewarding assignment, but it’s time for me to go and do other things,” said Sutton.
Reflecting on his time at Creighton, Sutton cited working with cadets as one of his favorite memories where he witnessed leadership development among students. He also enjoyed service opportunities through Habitat for Humanity and the veterans home.
“Creighton draws students who are interested in making a positive impact on the world,” Sutton said. “And to see young people motivated to do that is what I’m going to take away from the University.”
Sutton’s advice for Creighton students include pursuing one’s passions and continuing to carry a service mentality while being a Bluejay.
Prior to coming to Creighton in 2013, Sutton was a military officer for 20 years, serving three tours in Iraq and working assignments at Fort Knox, Fort Leavenworth and Fort Hood, among others.
A retirement ceremony for Sutton was held in the Skutt Student Center, Mutual of Omaha Ballroom, on May 4.
