Research and Scholarship

Research and Scholarship Interests

  • My primary research interests include the examination of mechanisms that increase one’s vulnerability to alcohol use disorders following trauma exposure with emphasis on developmental trajectories, mental health symptoms, and regulatory abilities. I also have research interests in college student alcohol use and the prevention of alcohol-related consequences including sexual violence.

Grant Funding Received

  • The impact of induced mood on vulnerability to problem drinking. Investigator Supply Grant funded by Creighton’s Center for Undergraduate Research and Scholarship (CURAS) Faculty Research Fund. The faculty grant funded undergraduate researcher for her work as a research project coordinator in a study examining the influence of experimentally-induced mood on mechanisms to problem drinking.
  • Randomized clinical trial of computer-based attention control training for PTSD. The research proposes a randomized clinical trial to further examine the efficacy of computer-based attention control training for posttraumatic stress disorder in veterans, women with histories of interpersonal violence, and children. Funded by At Ease USA for three years and in collaboration with Principal Investigator, Dr. Amy Badura-Brack at Creighton University.
  • Building Resilience via Changes in Thinking Patterns: “I Think (Differently), Therefore I Am (More Resilient)”. The research project proposes to pilot a resiliency training program in four sections of the Ratio Studiorum Program in efforts to increase Creighton students’ resilience and decrease mental health difficulties. Funded by the CURAS Faculty Research Fund for one year and in collaboration with co-principal investigator, Dr. Lee Budesheim.
  • Faculty development in advanced statistical techniques: A workshop in structural equation modeling. The proposal is intended to help fund a workshop in structural equation modeling hosted by the Department of Psychological Science. Submitted to the TLC Development Grants for the Assessment of Student Learning/Faculty Projects.
